Midland Roofing Celebrates 50 Years In Business

As a second-generation, family-owned business, we’re celebrating our 50th year in   business at Midland Roofing!

Midland Roofing began back in 1975 as Midland Gutter Company. Founders Bob   and Kathy Mackie were both working for a local home improvement company and   decided the time was right to start their own company. With a home equity loan to   buy equipment, Midland Gutter Company began in InsertCityHere, Rhode Island.

“We didn’t have the budget to advertise in the Providence Journal (statewide daily   newspaper), so we took out an ad in our local weekly paper. The day the paper   came out, the phone started ringing! We seemed to find a niche right in our own   town,” said Kathy. With Rhode Island’s small size, Midland expanded quickly to   cover the entire state as well as Southeastern Massachusetts.

As the company grew, so did the services Midland provided to homeowners.   “Gutters, siding, insulation and roofing — most of the exterior work our customers   were looking for,” says Bob. “But over time, our roofing division became most in   demand.”

In 2010, Midland pivoted to focus solely on roofing, and in 2014, Bob brought his   son-in-law, Dennis Wyatt, on board. “Before I retired, Dennis and I worked   together for a year so he could focus on product knowledge, understanding   customer needs and building relationships with our vendors. With a banking   background, he understood the finance side of the business, and he moved us   forward in the areas of marketing and data management,” Bob said.

“Bob and Kathy always treated customers as they would want to be treated, and   took care of each customer’s home like it was their own,” Dennis said. “It was   important to me to continue that combination of outstanding customer service   and expert installation. There’s a reason Midland Roofing has been in business for   50 years and is a GAF President’s Club 3-star award winner. We’re fortunate to   enjoy the reputation we have. So much of our business comes from referrals   which is a testament to the company that Bob and Kathy started back in 1975.”
